Welcome to Taos Lions Club

Serving Taos County since 1927

Vision Statement: To be the global leader in the community and humanitarian service.

Mission Statement: To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding.

For 90 years, the Taos Lions Club has followed the intention of the Lions Club International: we serve our community. We achieve this through various programs and community events held throughout the year. Our membership is actively involved in helping to make Taos and Taos County better places to live.

KIDSIGHT PROGRAM: Responding to a call from Helen Keller, to be Knights of the Blind, the Taos Lions Club has always been interested in improving childrens sight. The KidSight Program, started in 2007, uses up-to-date technology to screen the eyes of every Taos County child between Pre-K and third grade to catch, as early as possible, any vision impairments or disorders.

TIO VIVO: Every year since 1939 our Tio Vivo has been available, on special occasions, to the children of the Taos area.  While the Taos Lions are the stewards of this unique and priceless merry-go-round, it is dedicated to the children of Taos during those very special times when it is in operation.  Generations of kids have enjoyed riding  our “Tio Vivo”.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Since 2003, we have offered scholarships to deserving young people in our community. In 2018 we have allocated scholarships totalling $20,000. Programs include Nursing, EMT training, CDL training and CNA training.

ADULT VISION: We serve needy adults who need financial assistance for eye exams and/or glasses through the coordinated efforts of Dr.Compton,OD, Dr.Ratzlaff, OD, social services and area churches.

EYEGLASS DISTRIBUTION:  Did you know that the Taos Lions Club collects eyeglasses for individuals in need? We have collected and distributed over 12,000 eyeglasses since the inception of the KidSight program.  Collection boxes can be found at these locations in town: Walmart, Walgreens, Real Eyes, Eye Associates, Super Save, Vision Source, Ancianos Senior Center, Elevation’s Coffee Shop, and Kit Carson Electric Main Office.

COMMUNITY CHARITIES:  We select a wide variety of local non-profits to financially support throughout the year (Boy & Girl Scouts, Bridges, CAV, Food Pantry, Dream Tree, Heart of Taos and many, many more….).

We welcome anyone who is interested in making a difference and passionate about community service to join the Taos Lions Club. We are a dynamic and growing club, currently 47 members strong, which makes us one of the largest and most active service club in the Taos area.  Our membership is proud of the contributions we have made to the Taos community over the last 90 years, and continue to make on a daily basis. As a member of the Taos Lions Club, you will have many opportunities to impact the lives of your friends and neighbors in a beneficial way. You can expect to develop close personal relationships with our current members. In many ways, we are more than just a service club, we are a family. Our clubs dues are affordable, and we have no rigid attendance requirement; we simply ask that you contribute your time and talents whenever possible. We are confident that once you experience the joy of helping others, you will become an active and proud Lion! We encourage you to explore our website to find out what being a Lion is all about, and if you like what you see, contact our Membership Director, Paul White at pmw1199@gmail.com.
